Margaret Scarsdale
Proven Leadership
Delivering for Us
On the issues that matter most, State Representative Margaret Scarsdale is delivering for Ashby, Dunstable, Groton, Lunenburg, Pepperell, and Townsend.
Margaret knows that challenges are something we rise to.
It’s how she was raised. Her mom was a single parent, and Margaret started working at thirteen to help make ends meet.
It’s what inspires her to give back. From running her own small business, to working in town government, to teaching middle school students, Margaret’s focus has always been on strengthening our communities.
And it’s what guides her work every day as our State Representative.
A Dedicated Public Servant
Who Never Backs Down from a Tough Fight
When corporate greed closed Nashoba Valley Medical Center, Margaret Scarsdale fought back and delivered.
After personally bringing prospective bidders to the table, Margaret knew firsthand the damage that Steward Health Care had done to the hospital, carving out services and infrastructure. When it was clear that no bidders for the hospital would emerge, Margaret pivoted her efforts, co-chairing the Emergency, Outpatient, and Healthcare Services Subcommittee.
The work of the sub-committee, and Margaret’s continued advocacy, helped spur UMass Memorial’s investment in a satellite emergency facility in Groton. While the new facility is being built, Margaret championed the effort to secure $5 million in additional state aid for our first responders to compensate our towns for longer EMS travel times and rising costs.
Now, Margaret is leading the fight on Beacon Hill to set right the broken school funding formula, which has shortchanged the First Middlesex District for decades. She brought together a first-of-its-kind statewide education funding reform coalition, which created renewed momentum to make structural changes to the funding formula and enabled year-over-year state aid increases for all six towns in her District.
